The Shingle Creek Regional Trail branches off the Rush Creek Regional Trail at Noble Parkway and heads south along the road to Brooklyn Park and Brooklyn Center. If you like mountain biking, head south to 181st Avenue, where you will find a bike rack and a trail head for the Elk River Trail. The Trout Brook Regional Trail offers a picturesque view of Lake Superior and the Twin Lakes region from the north.
US Highways 10 and 169 have their northern terminus at the northwestern junction of the Elk River. Minnesota Highway 101 has its northern end on Interstate 94, while the US U-S 169 is the main road connecting the highway to Interstate 94, seven miles south.
As any fan of public broadcasting can tell you, the path's namesake is the Elk River Trail, made famous by the Minnesota State Patrol's "Elk River Patrol Trail" (LRT). The lrt runs southwest of the Minneapolis suburb of Hopkins along the Parkway and then southward through the city of St. Paul and into Lake Superior.
For years, the intersection of the road and Interstate 10 was the only traffic light on the Elk River, and traffic jammed for miles on the long travel weekends.
